Infection is unlikely to occur with the administration of preventive antibiotics. A broad-spectrum antibiotic that kills a wide range of bacteria may be given preoperatively. Also, the site of incision will be prepped using sterility and aseptic techniques or principles, per hospital protocol. If all of these factors are taken into consideration, the chances of an infection lessen drastically.
